Congratulations to our Garland ISD
Reflections Winners!

Tonya Torske, the Council Chair for Reflections had this to say:

"Well done!  We had 36 schools participate this year and had about 475 entries turned in to the council on Saturday.   We had amazing work at every level and the judges had a difficult job."

Thanks to all who participated – we’re proud of all our talented Owls here at Garland High School!

The Reflections Competition

Designed to enhance rather than replace a quality arts education, the Reflections program provides opportunities for students to express themselves and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts.

The 2008 Reflections program theme: "I can make a difference by..."

Your local GHS PTSA (as well as the State and National PTA organizations) believes that all students deserve a quality arts education and encourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in its annual arts Reflections program. The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Freshman through Senior students are encouraged to create and submit works of art in four areas: literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts (which includes art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, and collage). In its more than 30-year history, the program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to create works of art. The Reflections program was started in 1969 by then Colorado PTA President Mary Lou Anderson.

Students participate in the Reflections program by submitting entries to their local PTA or PTSA.  Any student member in good standing of the GHS PTSA is eligible to submit an entry in the Reflections program.

This competition is sponsored at the Local, Regional, State, and National level
by the respective PTA/PTSA organizations

Last year, our very own Allison Yank took a National-level award for her winning entry in the Photography category (see it here).  Freshman Jayci Van Cleave won a State-level award for her entry in the Mixed Media category (see it here).
